Dr. Arkwell grew up in an Air Force family. Her father was a Chief Master Sergeant, and graduated high school while he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. She attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, graduating in 1976 Magna Cum Laude with a degree in biology. Dr. Arkwell did her graduate work at Southern Illinois University School of Dentistry, where she graduated in 1979. Her orthodontic specialty residency was completed in 1981 with a Master of Science degree at Washington University in St. Louis. She partnered with Dr. Grimm in 1981.
Dr. Arkwell is an accomplished airplane pilot and certified flight instructor with ratings in helicopters, hot air balloons and gliders. She also enjoys mountain climbing, skiing and running, and adventure travel. Dr. Arkwell serves in her church by teaching Sunday School for children.
Originally from the Chicago suburb of Worth, Dr. Schuler attended Northern Illinois University, where he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in biology. He attended Loyola University of Chicago's School of Dentistry, again graduating Cum Laude in 1983 with a doctorate in dentistry. Following graduation, Dr. Schuler served as a general dental officer with the United States Air Force. After his service in the Air Force, Dr. Schuler maintained a private dental practice in Fort Myers, Florida. In 1991 Dr. Schuler attended the University of Louisville, completing a specialty residency in orthodontics in 1993 with a Master of Science degree. He joined Drs. Grimm and Arkwell in 1993.
Dr. Schuler has been published extensively in orthodontics, with numerous scientific articles in various publications. He also teaches as an associate professor of orthodontics at the University of Louisville.
Dr. Schuler is a board-certified orthodontist, which means he has been accredited as reaching the highest level of training recognized for orthodontics specialists in the country.
Dr. Schuler and his wife Kathy have two children, Ryan and Lauren. He loves outdoor hobbies, including flying, hunting and fishing.
Dr. McShane grew up in Peoria, Illinois and attended Notre Dame High School. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in psychology, he attended Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine, where he earned a doctorate in dentistry. Following his dental education, Dr. McShane attended the orthodontic residency program at Saint Louis University, earning a Master of Science degree in dentistry and a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Following his orthodontic residency, Dr. McShane worked in a private practice in St. Louis.
Dr. McShane is a board-certified orthodontist, which means he has been accredited as reaching the highest level of training recognized for orthodontics specialists in the country.
Dr. McShane is always striving to learn more about orthodontics and how to achieve the best possible result. As part of the Dawson Academy Study Club, Dr. McShane has gained a deeper understanding of how the TM joint, muscles, proprioceptive input, lower anterior teeth, upper anterior teeth, lower posterior teeth and upper posterior teeth are designed to function in harmony with one another.
Dr. McShane is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. Dr. McShane is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, and has authored many articles in orthodontics, including airway analysis and sleep apnea, as well as advancements in Invisalign and oral hygiene technology.
Dr. McShane and his wife Lisa have a beautiful daughter, Lucy. He plays the guitar and piano, enjoys golfing, cooking, and learning about the latest in dental technology.
